Haidate

The haidate was a split, apron-like thigh armor that appeared around the end of the Kamakura period about 1333 AD. The construction was cloth or leather with "pockets" for  iron or steel bars to to slide in for protection. Some Haidate had plates of metal stitched to the outside, these where common to the lower class of samurai.
